Amazon Inspector

Amazon Inspector is an automated vulnerability management service designed to continuously scan AWS workloads for software vulnerabilities and unintended network exposure. Operating natively across Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instances, container images stored in Amazon Elastic Container Registry (ECR), and serverless AWS Lambda functions, the service automatically discovers running resources and assesses them against regularly updated vulnerability databases, including Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) dictionaries. By utilizing the AWS Systems Manager agent for operating system assessments and deep image inspection engines, Amazon Inspector evaluates packages, dependencies, and application code without requiring complex manual security scanning pipelines.

The service delivers an intelligent, context-aware risk scoring mechanism that correlates Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) scores with real-world environmental factors, including network accessibility, active exploit availability, and resource tags.
