Cloudflare Gateway

Cloudflare Gateway is an enterprise cloud-native Secure Web Gateway (SWG), DNS filtering, and network firewall solution delivered across Cloudflare global Anycast edge network. As a core component of Cloudflare Zero Trust, Gateway protects distributed enterprise workforces from web-borne threats, malware, phishing sites, and unauthorized shadow IT applications while enforcing granular corporate acceptable use policies across all internet-bound traffic.

Operating with ultra-low latency, Gateway inspects outbound user traffic across three distinct layers: DNS, HTTP/S, and network layers 3/4. Key capabilities include high-speed DNS filtering across categorized domain databases, deep SSL/TLS decryption and content inspection, file antivirus scanning powered by integrated threat engines, real-time DLP inspection for corporate data uploads, and shadow IT discovery and governance. Utilizing the lightweight Cloudflare WARP client or standard IPsec/GRE tunnels, enterprises route traffic from user laptops, branch offices, and mobile devices directly to the nearest Cloudflare point of presence, eliminating the performance penalties of backhauling traffic through legacy data center proxies.

Cloudflare Gateway integrates natively with enterprise identity providers including Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, and Google Workspace, as well as SIEM tools like Splunk and Microsoft Sentinel. Primary enterprise use cases include protecting remote employees against phishing and malware domains, preventing corporate data leakage through unsanctioned SaaS applications, enforcing content filtering for school and public networks, and meeting regulatory compliance benchmarks like CIPA, HIPAA, and GDPR.
